Focus feels harder than ever, and it’s not your imagination — everything is engineered to grab your attention. The good news: focus is a skill you can rebuild. Here’s how.

Remove distractions before you start
Most “focus” problems are really distraction problems. Phone out of sight, notifications off, unnecessary tabs closed. You can’t out-discipline a buzzing phone, so remove it from the equation.
Work in focused blocks
Your brain isn’t built for hours of unbroken concentration. Work in blocks — say 25 to 50 minutes — with real breaks between. Short, intense focus beats long, distracted stretches.
Single-task on purpose
Multitasking is a myth; you’re really switching rapidly and losing time each switch. Pick one task, finish or pause it cleanly, then move on.
Train it like a muscle
If your attention span feels short, it can grow back with practice. Start with short focus sessions and extend gradually. Reading books is excellent attention training.
Mind your inputs
Constant short-form scrolling trains your brain to crave novelty every few seconds. A digital detox genuinely helps your focus recover.
Protect your best hours
Notice when you’re naturally sharpest and guard that time for your hardest work. Don’t waste your peak focus on email. Beating procrastination gets you started; focus keeps you going.
